- Meaning and Communication (7 May - 24 May 2002)
-
- The Meaning and Communication course builds on your own knowledge
and experience of language, and offers a chance to learn and think about
how language works. The course includes insights from recent developments
in linguistic theory, such as Text Semantics, Relevance Theory, Lexical
Semantics and Scenario and Metaphor. These theoretical approaches are
applied to texts and your experience of real language use.
-
- This course aims to be of value to all those working in areas of cross-cultural
communication, language development, literacy and translation. The course
increases awareness of how communication can be improved and why it
sometimes fails, and will help participants to build these insights
into their current and future work. The course is based on adult learning
principles and aims to be stimulating and enjoyable.
